Spring Barley Recipe
If we adjust our diet and our lifestyle to the seasons , we achieve a positive change in the health-promoting digestive microbes . A healthy digestive system is the foundation of our health . The ” Spring microbes ” ensure a strong immune system , good digestion, good mood, the same blood sugar levels and thus help to maintain a healthy weight . A well-functioning digestive system also ensures restful sleep . The spring is associated with Kapha qualities , that is heavy, cold and oily. To compensate we should consume light, dry and hot food to us and keep the body active through appropriate activities.
Spring Barley (4-5 portions)
200g barley grains
1 burdock, washed, peeled and finely chopped
1/2 teaspoon of sea salt or 1 teaspoon of vegetable broth
1/2 of a seaweed leaf
1 teaspoon of dried sage
Black pepper and coconut oil for taste
Combine all ingredients except sage and black pepper in a large pot and bring to boil. Cover the pot and let simmer for 50 minutes or until the barley grains are soft. Then add the sage and black pepper for taste as you continue to simmer for 5 minutes.
